Revolutionizing Transactions:

Digital Payment Systems Launched

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had launched an effort for the development of the Punjab government. Among her most notable reforms, the most important is considered to be the digital system. To expand this, she has now introduced a single digital payment platform for the Metro Bus and Orange Line. Now the payment method has been made even easier. This initiative is an important step towards transparency, development and security.

Key Objectives of Digital Payment

Here are the key objectives of Punjab’s initiatives under CM Maryam’s leadership:

  • Promote Digital Payments and Technology.
  • Introducing Electric Rickshaws for Sustainable Transportation.
  • Empower Youth through Education and Entrepreneurship.
  • Foster Economic Growth and Innovation.
  • Enhance Environmental Sustainability.

These objectives aim to drive Punjab’s development through technology, sustainability, and economic empowerment.

How Will this System Work?

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said about the digital payment system for the Metro Bus Orange Line that the token system will be abolished in this system because the token system was becoming obsolete.

Now, a barcode system will be introduced through card payment and fare payment will now be made through various means such as credit card, debit card, ATM card and your mobile account.

The system, which was a mass transit system, will now also allow fare payment through NFC i.e. card dip and touch.

Payment Through Credit Card and Debit Card

There are some areas in which payment will be made only through credit card and debit card on the metro bus. These areas are;

  • Lahore,
  • Multan,
  • Rawalpindi
  • And Islamabad.

The token system will soon be phased out in Lahore’s Orange Line train system. And an e-payment system will be introduced in its place.

Along with this, fares can also be paid through credit card, debit card and mobile number or other payment apps on Lahore’s Orange Line.

T-Cash Card

According to reports, the mass transit system, which is a very large system and requires many things, has also been decided to be abolished and replaced with only one car. And approval has been given to introduce the T-Cash Card in its place.

This card is not at all common, but through it, digital payments will be possible in any metro bus and Orange Line throughout the province, that is, in the whole of Punjab. While it was announced for students that a separate card will be made for them.

Vacancies

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also approved recruitment on technical posts to improve the transport system and recruitments will be made on technical posts from grade five to grade 18 in this department.

The Silent Revolution on Wheels:

Electric Rickshaws Hit the Road

Perhaps one of the most eye-catching innovations has been the launch of electric rickshaws in Punjab. These three-wheeled vehicles have long been a symbol of urban life in Pakistan. But under Maryam Nawaz’s green agenda, they are getting a 21st-century upgrade.

Why Electric Rickshaws Matter:

Electric rickshaws are not just a flashy innovation—they solve multiple problems at once:

Environmental Benefits:

No tailpipe emissions, contributing to cleaner air and reduced noise pollution.

Fuel Savings:

With rising petrol prices, electric rickshaws drastically reduce operational costs.

Job Creation:

Training drivers, mechanics, and battery technicians creates new employment opportunities.

Women Drivers:

The initiative has opened doors for female drivers, breaking gender barriers in public transport.

State Support & Affordability:

The government is subsidizing electric rickshaws and offering easy installment loans through Punjab Bank and microfinance institutions. Charging stations are being installed across major cities, and training centers are educating youth in EV maintenance.

This electrification drive reflects a commitment to green urban mobility, aiming to eventually replace old, smoke-emitting vehicles with modern, sustainable ones.

Conclusion: A Holistic Model

CM Maryam’s government isn’t looking at these reforms in isolation. Instead, there’s a clear, interconnected roadmap:Digital payments support electric vehicle purchases through easy financing.

E-rickshaws reduce emissions, which complements the government’s plans for urban forestation and climate resilience.Women’s economic inclusion is being addressed through both online payment platforms and women-driven rickshaw programs. This is a multi-sectoral innovation model, combining transport, fintech, climate action. And gender empowerment into one cohesive strategy.
